Adobo Main Course : AKIRA KAGAMI, Executive Officer & Global ECD, Dentsu Inc.

Cannes Lions’ first-ever Jury Chair from Japan, 2009 Jury Head for Outdoor Akira Kagami is a 30-year veteran of Dentsu, the world’s largest ad agency.*

Kagami joined Dentsu as a strategist in 1971, and became a copywriter within a few years. In his own creative work – for which he has won Cannes Lions, Japan’s ACC Grand Prix, Clio, IBA Sweepstakes, Art Directors’ Club, the One Show and three ADFEST Grand Prix – and as the regular presentor of Dentsu’s prestigious Cannes seminar, he has been an early and vocal advocate for creativity that is distinctly Asian but of a global standard. He chaired AdFest in 2002, and was the first foreign judge in the China Advertising Great Wall Awards in 2007.

This breadth of experience has led Kagami to his most recent mission: to go beyond his work as a creative, to initiate a catalytic scheme for global communication. Currently he is focused on strengthening Dentsu’s creative and client work in Asia.

He is also an acclaimed author and translator of science fiction.

Dentsu Worldwide is officially the world’s largest independently-owned ad agency. It owns a 15% stake in the Publicis Groupe, and has offices worldwide, including two affiliates in Manila. They began 2009 with a new slogan, Good Innovation.
